Welcome to the NAGA Spirit Dragonboat Team Website
NAGA Spirit is one of Sydney’s first Dragon Boat Teams. Started in 1992 as the UNSW Malaysian Students’ Organisation Dragon Boat Team (MSODB), the team initially sought to foster friendships with newly arrived international students and help them adjust to life in Australia….and life in Australia obviously meant sports!
Nothing seemed to blend that uniquely Malaysian spirit with the famous Aussie sporting culture quite like Dragon boating.
MSODB managed to secure a sponsorship deal with a large company, effectively changing our name to CORVU. The sponsorship ended in 2006, but not before the team won Gold in every category at the 2004 State Championship Regatta. Not long afterwards the club reincarnated as NAGA Spirit meaning ‘Dragon’ in Malay, as a dedication to our roots.
NAGA Spirit today caters to all ages, cultures and life stages as a social sporting club. The club has been in numerous finals at regattas since inception and has produced paddlers who have and still do represent in the NSW state squad as well as the Australian National squad.
Our team motto “For Each Other” binds the team together with a strong sense of team spirit. We are dedicated to providing a fun yet challenging environment where paddlers can come together and be involved in the unique sport of Dragon Boating.
