• when do we train?
  • during the racing season we train on monday and wednesday nights, and saturday mornings. during the off-season we train on saturday mornings and enjoy the winter sun!

  • when and where do we race?
  • we race roughly every 4-6 weeks in spring, summer and some parts of autumn. the main venue is Sydney’s International Regatta Centre, a purpose built facility for the 2000 Sydney Olympics’ rowing and canoe sprint events. we also race in the excitement  of Darling Harbour for Chinese New Year, and occasionally make appearances at regional regattas such as Shellharbour. the Australian Dragonboat Championships are held in different states ever year, the 2017-2018 season will be located at Lake Kawana, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

  • what distances do we race?
  • 200m and 500m are our normal sprint distances at official regattas. occasionally we have races that go for 2km or 4km.

  • what if i do not wish to compete in racing events?
  • that is fine! you are still welcome to train with us and attend our social activities! we completely understand that not everyone is ready or wishes to participate and experience the intensity and atmosphere of dragon boat racing!

  • and what other activities do we do?
  • those of us with itchy feet can go to the gym, walk, jog / run, and occasionally tackle the infamous Coogee Death Stairs because it’s there.
  • some like the water so much that they keep paddling away in their spare time, in vessels such as sprint canoes, kayaks and outrigger canoes.
  • for social events, we like having meeting at cafes, restaurants and the occasional pub. lately we held a Social event at Holey Moley Mini Golf in Newtown followed by nice dinners and drinks at Gurdys just a few doors away.

  • but … i’m not fit!
  • it’s ok, we all had to start from somewhere! understandably our sessions will be tailored to include beginner paddlers at all levels of fitness. you will definitely not be expected to be an elite paddler from day one.

  • i’m convinced, what next?
  • please take a look at our try paddling page – and contact us from there or from the sidebar to the right – for the details of our training location and what you need to bring to our session. most importantly, bring yourself, an open mind, and your bright smile! =)
